Is Olymp Trade halal or haram?

Before opening an account, many Muslim traders in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Brunei and the Maldives want to know where Olymp Trade stands in Islamic law. Below is a summary of published rulings on binary options, each linked so you can check the source.

In one paragraph

Every fatwa we read places fixed-time binary options, the main product on Olymp Trade, in the haram category. Scholars see them as a wager (maysir, qimar) built on excessive uncertainty (gharar), and we are not aware of any recognised fatwa council that permits them.

We are summarising rulings, not issuing one. Put your own case to a scholar whose knowledge you trust.

Why scholars rule binary options haram

A wager, not a trade (maysir, qimar)

Only two results are possible – a set payout or losing everything you staked – and what one party wins the other loses. You buy nothing and own nothing; you stake money on where a price will be.

Uncertainty beyond what is allowed (gharar)

The outcome hangs entirely on the price at one instant, often seconds or minutes ahead. A hadith in Sahih Muslim records the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbidding sales built on such uncertainty.

Nothing real changes hands

Resolution 63 (1/7) of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy holds that options cannot be traded, because the thing sold is neither an asset, nor a usufruct, nor a financial right that may be exchanged for money.

Forex and CFDs on Olymp Trade

Olymp Trade also offers forex or CFDs. Leveraged CFDs add further problems: overnight swaps (riba) and selling what you don't own. A swap-free label removes only the interest.

Do Islamic or swap-free accounts help?

A few platforms promote 'Islamic' or swap-free accounts. Removing overnight interest deals with riba, yet a fixed-time option never charges overnight interest in the first place – the objection is to its betting structure. Darul Ifta Birmingham states that so-called halal binary options accounts are still not permissible.

Treat any website that declares a binary options platform halal with suspicion. Sites like this one may earn money when you sign up, so we cite scholars' rulings instead of offering our own opinion.

Halal alternatives

  • Owning Shariah-screened shares or ETFs outright for the long term.
  • Sukuk, or Islamic funds overseen by a Shariah supervisory board.
  • Exchanging currency on the spot when you genuinely need it, not to speculate.

Before investing, confirm the product with a scholar or with the provider's Shariah board.

Quick answers

Can a Muslim trade on Olymp Trade?

The rulings we reviewed say no: binary options count as gambling (maysir) carrying excessive uncertainty (gharar). Confirm with a qualified scholar for your own case.

Is there an Islamic account on Olymp Trade?

Look at its current account list. Even if one exists, scholars such as Darul Ifta Birmingham hold that removing swaps doesn't make binary options lawful.

Is there any school of thought that allows them?

Hanafi muftis, Islamweb's fatwa centre and the International Islamic Fiqh Academy reach the same verdict, and we have found no recognised council that permits fixed-time binary options.

I already made profits. What now?

A common scholarly view is to keep your starting capital and give the gains from impermissible deals to charity, without seeking reward. Ask a scholar how it applies to you.
